Womens Rugby – Friendly v Youghal. 53-0!
On a cold Thursday evening, the ladies were out to play Youghal in a friendly with kick off at 7.30pm in the farm. The first half was slow and uneven from the UCC girls, but that didn’t stop the tries crossing the white wash. It was obvious on the night who the stronger side was, but Youghal still put up a good fight. The ref was crude to the lee siders but discipline towards mistakes was a huge necessity. The first half was slow and one sided, Youghal only managed to cross UCC’s 22 3 times in the first half.
The second half got underway and the ladies upped their game by 100%, line speed was more intense and tackling was more accurate. More support play allowed the likes of Hannah O Sullivan to score her first try in a UCC jersey. With strong runners like Laura Sheehan and Rebecca crowley putting their names on the score sheet, it was obvious the back line had their plays perfected. The support play from forwards was slow in the first half but as soon as the the second half got underway Powerhouses’ like Ciara O Dwyer turned over numerous balls, secured play and scored a try.
Special mention to Laura Delaney for miraculously stealing a ball from the scrum half from the back of the scrum to score a splendid try…only to follow her second attempt at scoring, which failed by slipping three metres before the try line.
