Welcome New Students!
On behalf of the Clubs Executive and the Clubs I would like to welcome each and every new student to University College Cork. With 58 clubs in UCC, UCC Sport offers a diverse range of activities for students to participate in. Both competitive and recreational, each club offers something unique and there is literally a club for everyone. Clubs are a great environment for making life-long friends, having fun, trying new things and staying active.
The main message we in the Clubs Executive want to get across this year is that you don’t need to be really good at a sport to join in. Even if you’ve never heard of the sport before, why not give it a go! All of our clubs cater for beginners and many students play just for fun.
Of course if you want to compete at the highest level, and be the next Sonia O’Sullivan or Ronan O’Gara, our clubs can help you achieve your goals too. Many successful athletes and sports people have graduated from UCC and there’s no doubt that some of their success can be accredited to their time spent here. The Mardyke Arena is the centre of sport in UCC and offers top-class facilities such as the outdoor and indoor running tracks, 25m swimming pool, cardio and weights gym, two squash courts, a large indoor sports hall, rock climbing wall and recovery facilities such as hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and a wellness centre. The best thing about the Mardyke though is that it’s free to join for all UCC students, all you need to do is bring your student card!
There’s always something interesting happening in the world of sport, we’ve had a hockey packed summer this year with the international hockey games between Ireland and the Netherlands as well as hosting the EuroHockey Youth Championships. But we’re even more excited about the year ahead as all 58 clubs get back in full swing for what’s sure to be another great year for UCC Sport. And we’re also excited about meeting all the new students who will come join our clubs on Clubs’ Day, September 13th, in Devere Hall.
Everyone involved in clubs is proud to wear the famous skull and crossbones, which represents a long tradition of sport in UCC. We’d love to welcome you into this tradition and we would also like to take this opportunity to wish all of you the very best of luck in the year ahead in both your academics and your new chosen club!

See you on clubs day!
