Valiant UCC fall at the final hurdle

It was not to be for a spirited UCC side in Dublin on Thursday last. Seeking back to back outdoor championships, UCC lost the toss and were asked to bat first on what was a dry and extensively cracked wicket.

Despite a promising start, the Leesiders were soon pegged back and wickets fell at regular intervals, 99 all out in just 30 overs. DIT, who had never won the competition batted aggressively and soon overhauled the victory target despite losing three wickets.

It was a brave effort from a UCC side who had battled hard throughout the competition and were unlucky to find themselves pipped to the winner’s post.
