UCC karate club is all set for an exciting, diverse, and zen-filled 2019/20 year, with the club returning to regular training 18:00 in Hall 1 of the Mardyke Arena on Tuesday September 10th. This year features a number of events, including trips to compete in two intervarsity competitions. We’re also running a dedicated six week courses for absolute beginners (with regular falling over!), new competitive supports for those wishing to excel in competition, and a collaborative self defense course.
As well as competing on the national stage, UCCKC club places a strong emphasis on academic-life balance, personal development, and building a vibrant club community. Our club caters for teaching karate at all levels and ages, with beginners, intermediates and seniors training separately.
With this in mind, a six week course in karate for absolute beginners kicks off on Thursday September 19th (18:00 hrs in Hall 1). This round of classes, held once a week, are relatively informal in comparison to the more senior classes, and offer students the perfect opportunity to try out and master the basic techniques which will serve you for years to come. There we teach you some really basic but effective self-defence tricks, introduce you to the karate-way of training, and give you a bit of zen downtime from your hectic college schedule.
For the rest of us, training begins this week (Tuesday 10th September). New members are always welcome to join the club. In a nutshell, if you want to train, drop in and train away with us!! – Tuesdays & Thursdays, 18:00-19:30 hrs, Hall 1, Mardyke Arena. If you are on main campus on Clubs Day (September 10th) pop over to our stand and have a chat, otherwise, just join in at training.
