UCC Sport wish Eamon Fitz and his Kerry team good luck.

The close links between the University and Kerry continues next Sunday as the Kingdom take on Dublin in the All-Ireland Senior Football Final in Croke Park. There is also a UCC link with the Minor Final between Kerry and Tipperary. In the senior game there are nine players who have played with College in the Sigerson Cup and who are also part of the Kerry panel. The nine are Stephen O’Brien (Kenmare Shamrocks), Johnny Buckley (Dr Crokes), Peter Crowley (Laune Rangers), Shane Enright (Tarbert), Paul Galvin (Finuge), Paul Geaney (Dingle), Brian Kelly & Padraig O’Connor (Killarney Legion) and Paul Murphy (Rathmore) .

As well as all the above named Arts and H-Dip in Education graduate  Eamon Fitzmaurice will attempt to win back to back All Ireland titles as manager of this Kerry team.

There is also a link with UCC and the Minor Final between Kerry and Tipperary with six fresher’s lining out with both counties. Tipperary give Danny Owens and Morgan Irwin (Moyle Rovers & Commerce) along with Accounting student Jack Kennedy (Clonmel Commercials) while Commerce students Mark O’Connor (Dingle) and Ronan Buckley (Listry) as well as Social Science student Jason Foley (Ballydonoghue) play with Kerry.

Congratulations to Dr Wesley O’Brien, Lecturer in the Department of Sports Studies & Physical Education as well as the ten (forgot to mention M.Ed. student Niamh Ni Chaoimh last time out) UCC students who all played a huge part in the winning of the All-Ireland Camogie Final last Sunday when Cork defeated Galway.

Finally, congratulations to Sigerson Cup manager Billy Morgan who will be honoured on Sunday along with the Cork Senior Football winning team of 1990 prior to the All-Ireland Final. Another UCC link with Sunday is that the new Fresher football manager Larry Tompkins was the captain of that 1990 team.

The games are live on TG4 and RTE2 and commence @ 12.45pm and there are no more tickets as it is a sell-out.
