UCC Karate kicks off our Spring Semester
UCC karate club is all set for an exciting and zen-filled Spring semester, with the club returning to regular training 18:00 in Hall 1 of the Mardyke Arena. This semester features a number of events, including two intervarsity competitions, and a dedicated six week course for absolute beginners.
On January 27th, UCCKC hosts the 2018 All-Ireland Open Martial Arts Intervarsity Championships in collaboration with UCC Taekwondo and kickboxing clubs. Then, on March 10th, UCCKC hosts the 2018 All-Ireland Karate Intervarsity Championships. These events are shaping up to be highlights of the 2018 Spring semester, building on the clubs successes over the Autumn hosting WTKO National Open Championships.
UCCKC isn’t all about competitions however, the club places a strong emphasis of academic-life balance and building a vibrant club community. Our club caters for teaching karate at all levels, with beginners, intermediates and seniors training separately
With this in mind, a six week course in karate for absolute beginners kicks off on Tuesday January 30th (18:00 hrs in Hall 1). This round of classes, held once a week, are relatively informal in comparison to the more senior classes, and offer students the perfect opportunity to try out and master the basic techniques which will serve you for years to come. There we teach you some really basic but effective self-defence tricks, introduce you to the karate-way of training, and give you a bit of zen downtime from your hectic college schedule.
For the rest of us, training begins tonight (Tuesday 16th January). New members are always welcome to join the club. In a nutshell, if you want to train, drop in and train away with us!! – Tuesdays & Thursdays, 18:00-19:30 hrs, Hall 1, Mardyke Arena.
