UCC influence on Hurling Finals
Sundays National Hurling League Final in Thurles at 3.30 features Cork playing their neighbours Waterford. There will be a significant UCC influence on the game as a whole host of College players will feature on both teams. Cork provide Alan Cadogan (Arts), Cormac Murphy (Arts), Rob O’Shea (Commerce), Killian Burke (Masters ISBP), Conor Lehane (Criminology) while Waterford students are Shane Roche (Commerce) Padraig Prendergast (Arts), Tadgh Burke (Arts), Jamie Barron (Arts), DJ Foran (Arts), Tom Devine (Medicine), Mark O’Brien (Arts)
Waterford manager, Derek McGrath is a former Fitzgibbon Cup winner with UCC in 1996 & 97. There are also a whole host of UCC graduates on both sides, on the field and in the management teams.
The Camoige League Final which throws in at 1.30 also features many UCC players as Cork take on Galway.
UCC students on the Cork camogie panel include Katrina and Pamela Mackey (PHD Chemistry), Orla Cronin (Biological & Chemical Science), Meabh Cahalane (Commerce), Leanne O’Sullivan (Arts), Caroline Sugrue (Sports Studies & PE), Amy O’Connor (Pharmacy) and Jennifer Hosford (Childhood Studies). Dr Wesley O’Brien from the UCC Dept of Sports Studies is coaching the Camoige team and is also involved in coaching the Freshers Hurling team here in the University.
Both games are live on TG4 – 1.30pm (camoige) and 3.30pm (hurling).
