UCC formally launch bid to host Cricket Intervarsity Championships 2016

UCC Cricket Club have formally launched our proposal to host the finals of the 2016 Trevor West trophy.

In an open letter to the committee and members of the Irish Universities Cricket Association, chair of the intervarsity planning sub-committee Kevin O’Sullivan discussed the fact that 2016 will mark the 150th anniversary of the first cricket match played by representatives of the University (known as Queen’s University at the time), the merits of holding the tournament in Munster where cricket is growing rapidly and the levels of publicity and support that the tournament would enjoy in Cork. The outstanding cricket facilities available to teams were also highlighted.

This proposal has already found favour with the committee of IUCA and is set to be put before the members of the Association at next Saturday’s AGM in Belfast. UCC will be hopeful that this proposal will be supported unanimously and with no other formal proposal on the table to date, will be quietly confident of success.
