UCC Festival of Sport
UCC Festival of Sport
UCC’s long sporting tradition is synonymous with the Mardyke. From the time the Queen’s College Cork Annual Sports event was first held at a Mardyke venue in 1869, UCC students have sported and played across all codes at the Mardyke. This year marks the 300th Anniversary of the construction of the Mardyke Walk and to commemorate this Anniversary and UCC sport’s part in the Walk’s history, University College Cork Dept. of Sport and the Mardyke Arena will join forces to host a unique sporting event on Saturday 28th September to celebrate Mardyke 300.
The Mardyke 300 Celebration seeks to celebrate the historic, cultural, recreational, and sporting significance of this unique area within city centre by providing a range of activities and events between May and September that reflect its character and the opportunities it offers to city residents and visitors.
The UCC Festival of Sport welcomes families, sports enthusiasts, UCC Alumnus, staff, students and the wider Cork Community to the Mardyke Sports Ground for a fun filled day of sport. Twenty of UCC’s sports club will provide entertainment for all visitors. There’ll be a range of sporting activities to engage with. So, whether you want to come and support, come and watch or better again come and try, there’s something for everyone.
Come and support our teams, UCC Women’s Hockey kick off their Munster Division one campaign with a fixture against local side Ashton, while the division four side start against Harlequins. In soccer, UCC Soccer team begin take on Youghal in the MSL. UCC Aussie Rules will compete in an exhibition game.
Come and watch our clubs, UCC Trampoline will put on an acrobatic display which has seen them very successful in recent years in National competitions. UCC Fencing and several UCC martial arts will put on displays to showcase their clubs.
Or why not come and try, from rowing to badminton to rugby to archery and everything in between, there’s something for everyone to try no matter what your age.
This exciting event will feature UCC’s clubs in action across the Mardyke outdoor and indoor facilities from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. See the best of student sport live. The event is free to attend and whether you are a sports enthusiast, a UCC alumnus or just looking for a fun day out for the family, we would love to see you at the Mardyke on the 28th September. Come and watch, come and see and come and try!
