Sports Scholarships Day in UCC today

At 12.30 today in the Sports Pavilion in the Mardyke, UCC Sport will hold a function to honour Athletes who have been chosen as Sports Scholars for 2016/17. In total, 84 high performance Athletes from a wide range of Sports will receive their scholarships and get a chance to discuss their individual and collective goals for the year ahead.

These prestigious awards are aimed at providing our Athletes with a wide variety of support systems which can help them raise their standards in their given sport. Director of Sport and Physical Education in UCC Declan Kidney will speak with all athletes along with UCC Exercise Physiologist Trevor Woods and UCC Physiotherapist Brid McEvoy.

One interesting recipient will be Eve Badana. Eve is Canadian but is in UCC studying for her masters and lining out as goalkeeper for the university Soccer Club. One noteable absentee from todays event will be Kerryman and 2nd year commerce student Mark O’Connor. Mark was awarded a Quercus Scholarship for Gaelic Football in early September but has since taken up the oppurtunity to play professional Austrailian Rules Football with Geelong in Melbourne. We wish him well with this venture.

From the pitch to the track to the water and well beyond these awards are regarded highly by Athletes in UCC. Students from 5 of the 6 Munster counties as well as Kilkenny will be awarded Scholarships in 14 Sports:
