Lacey Cup 2015
Sunday 22nd of February marked the start of the road racing season for the UCC Cycling Club with club secretary Cillian Kenneally racing the Lacey Cup in Tralee. Here is his account of the day.
“Lacey Cup 2015 Wet and Windy conditions made for very tough racing today in Tralee for the Lacey Cup. I rolled out with the A4 bunch in only my Second ever race. The first 15km were very slow due to a ridiculous strong headwind. The pace then went up on the first climb I stayed towards the top of the bunch to avoid danger and as expected there was a big crash. Over the top the pace increased again and when we turned back towards Tralee the pace quickly reached 50km/h and remained that high until the second climb. Again I positioned myself towards the front of the bunch and as the numbers started to drop as the climb inclined I found myself fighting to hold wheels in about a group of 20 riders which was all that remained and eventually got dropped about 2km from the top.Over the top i tried to catch back on but with the again monstrous headwind I was unable to bridge the gap.Hopefully with a few more races under the belt ill be able to get some placings.”
