IUSA Intervarsity Championships

U.C.C. Sailing Club are due to host the upcoming Irish University Sailing Association Intervarsity Championships and have high hopes for a U.C.C. victory.

This event will run from the 26th to the 28th of February in the Fastnet Marine Outdoor Education Centre in Schull, Co. Cork. The F.M.O.E.C. is no stranger to events of this calibre, having hosted the Team Racing World Championships in 2011.

Next week, 28 teams will travel from 12 colleges in Ireland, along with 3 overseas teams from the Scottish University Sailing Association, in order to take part in three days of highly competitive racing.

Following day one, teams will be divided into Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets, and will race in these respective fleets on day two. On the third day, the top teams in each fleet will compete in the finals series.

U.C.C. will be well represented by five teams, who have proved themselves to be very promising prospects in 2014/2015, coming away with two podium finishes in every event so far this season.

Following very near misses over the past two years, finishing in 3rd and 2nd place in 2013 and 2014 respectively, the members U.C.C. Sailing Club are hoping to clinch the title of varsity champions, which has not been held by a U.C.C. team since 2006.
