International Hockey: Ireland v Netherlands, July 4th and 6th

UCC will host two International Hockey matches between Ireland and the Netherlands on the 4th and 6th of July, at 7pm. This is part of a series of home matches for the Irish team in preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

This is the first Irish Hockey team to compete in the Olympics since 1908 and in fact the first team of any sport to represent Ireland in the games since 1948.

Speaking on this, Irish goalkeeper David Harte told the Irish Examiner that “It’s not every day you get the number two side in the world in front of you, the silver medalists from the London Olympics, and the European champions. It should be a spectacle of hockey.” (

It should in fact be a spectacle of hockey and it’s a legendary game not to be missed. It is a great opportunity to see the team up close and personnel before watching in the Olypmics later this summer. Tickets can be bought online at €5 for a child, €10 for students and €15 for adults. From:

The Green Machine have already made history by qualifying for the Olympics and we wish them the very best of luck this summer in Rio.
