IHL Weekend

This Saturday the Mardyke will welcome it’s second ever IHL double header. Proceedings will start at 13:00 when the Men’s firsts take on reigning champions, Monkstown, who currently top the table. This will be followed by the Ladies firsts who clash with Railway Union at 15:00.

It is a massive day for the club to welcome such high quality opposition but men’s Captain Fionn O’Leary is keen to cause an upset on home turf. Coach Neil Welch will be looking for outstanding performances from Peter Catchpole in midfield and Shrew Power who will try to out muscle the visitors defense. Monkstown currently have 2 players away on international duty but will surely have quality replacements to fill in those gaps. It is essential that there is a big crowd to support the college as Monkstown are renowned for their travelling fans.

While a win for the Dubliners will see them all but qualify to the next stage, UCC’s hopes have already be dashed. In the second game of the day there is a different situation, both UCC ladies and Railway Union must win to give themselves a chance of qualification.

Railway will being looking to keep their good run on track as they are placed 3rd in the Leinster Division 1. College are coming into the game on the back of a 2-1 loss in Limerick against Catholic Institute. Captain Nicola Kerr will be looking to bring their league form into this game as they are still unbeaten in that competition. High quality performances from fresher Clodagh Moloney in the center back and also Amy Kate Trevor in midfield will be a necessity.
