Dance Club – End of Year Review.

The academic year of 2014/2015 has certainly been a successful one for UCC Dance. We have all jumped at every opportunity to expand, innovate and improve.

This year we almost doubled our numbers and we have performed at twice as many events as we did last year.  We have acquired the biggest radio station in Cork as sponsors and they have asked us to represent UCC at various 96fm functions throughout cork. We have done various events with different societies this year showing our willingness to join forces for different causes.

This year the dance club competed in the All-Ireland Dance Intervarsities in UL. The dance club has 1 main competition per year so we put our heart and soul into preparing for this competition. This year we retained our title as jazz champions, coming 1st for the third year in a row. We also placed 2nd in hip-hop, an incredible achievement as the standard is always so high. All of our dancers performed excellently at the competition and we are proud of each and every one of them.

Also, because of the lack of competitions we also hold an annual show in the Everyman Theatre. This year the show took place on the 8th of March and was a huge success, raising an incredible amount of money for Marymount Hospice, our chosen charity. This show is an opportunity to showcase the hard work, dedication and talent of each of our dancers while simultaneously raising money for good causes.

We also perform at many events throughout the year, this year we performed at the commerce ball, accounting and finance ball, arts ball, the cork youth chamber of commerce ball, and the clubs and societies ball. We also performed in the St. Patricks Day parade, at Relay for Life and UCC Demons basketball games, in Chambers for HIV awareness, and at the Cork City match on the 13th of March. Our dedicated group has jumped at the opportunity to dance at all of these diverse events; college balls, Opera house shows, club nights, fundraisers and business functions

We have also held workshops with guest choreographers throughout the year, Kerrie Milne (Dublin) and PJ Kirby (London). This year for the first time we have started providing workshops and weekly classes to Primary School children and dance schools throughout cork.

We have worked tirelessly throughout the past year to be the best club we can be, encouraged by each other as a close knit and supportive community and of course our title of Club of the Year 2013/2014. This year we strove to improve, maintain, and carry on the good work of our much loved club.
