Cricket – Double-header weekend brings double delight for UCC

UCC made it two victories in two days on Bank Holiday Monday when they defeated Waterford by 133 runs in the quarter-final of the Munster Minor Cup to set up a semi-final meeting with Limerick. Having been put in to bat, the home side racked up 250-7 with the significant contributions coming from Nabeel Tahir (42*), Kevin O’Sullivan (41) and Kashif Ahmad (40). The students then restricted the visitors to just 117 all out in the second innings, with off-spinner Nikhil Kaul doing the damage, picking up 4-12.

This victory came just 24 hours after UCC wrapped up a comprehensive win against Harlequins at Curraheen Park. Having won the toss and opted to field, UCC skittled the visitors for just 43 runs with the opening bowling pair of Kashif Ahmad and Abdul Razzaq doing the majority of the wicket-taking. It took the hosts just 8.5 overs to wrap up victory, maintaining their 100% record in the league and cup this year and pushing UCC to the top of the MCU Division 2 standings.
