Busy weekend ahead for UCCRC, 20-21/6/15.

This weekend will be a very busy one for the club, with UCCRC’s W2- travelling to compete in Henley Women’s Regatta, while the rest of the squad will battle it out with old rivals on home water at Cork Regatta.

Aifric and Barbara fresh from their win in the W Eilte 2- at London Met Regatta, will travel to  Henley this weekend to compete in what is the pinnacle of the rowing season in the UK for women; Henley Women’s Regatta. As is tradition, two crews race side by side down a 1500m course, the victor knocking out their competitors. The aim is to make it to the final race, where the two fastest crews in each event will face one another.

Meanwhile, back at home in the National Rowing Centre, the rest of the squad will be taking part in Cork Regatta. This will be a lot of the squad’s final chance to race before the Irish National Rowing Championships on the 10-12th July, so will prove vital preparation. On Saturday, the men’s squad will take to the water in the Division 1 2-‘s , attempting to gain qualification for the Homes International Regatta. For the rest of the weekend they will break into two 4’s both coxed and coxless. The women’s squad will compete in a 4+ on Saturday in a very competitive field, while also breaking into small boats including a 2- and 1x.

Best of luck to all crews racing this weekend, both at home and abroad!
