Back to back Intervarsity success for UCC Trampoline
It was a victorious weekend for UCC at the Trampoline Intervarsities 2018. Along with winning the Intervarsity Form Cup, UCC also took home the Shield by a whopping 12.55 points. With medallists in almost every category UCC competed in, it is safe to say that UCC’s presence was well and truly felt at the awards ceremony. For many of our members it was their first time competing, and several of them came home with medals. It was a proud moment for each and every one of the club members, who represented UCC Trampoline and indeed UCC Sport itself to the highest standard and to the best of their ability.
It all kicked off on Friday evening when warm-ups for the competition began in the Mardyke Arena. UCC took full advantage of home setting, by having the whole day to perfect routines and get into ship-shape for the following day’s activities. By 8pm that night, trampolinists from several other universities such as UL, NUI Maynooth, UCD, DCU and Queen’s University arrived and it was time to get the event started!
Saturday morning brought with it an air of excitement and anticipation. By mid-morning the competition had begun with Intermediate Ladies, and from then on it was all go! Throughout the day spectators saw everyone from Novice to Elite Pro compete, and the hall rang out with cheers after each competitor. It was great to see the support from our own members and other clubs alike.
Sunday equals fun-day for trampolinists. It didn’t disappoint with a schedule full of Synchro, Tumbling, Synchro Roulette, Two-Trick, Big Trick and Stick-It, there was hardly a dull moment all day. Friends were made and falls were had, but it can be said with certainty that Sunday was a wonderful way to round out Intervarsities 2018. By late afternoon, the troops headed up to the infamous, UCC Aula Maxima on main campus for the medal ceremony. When each medal had been awarded, it was time to say goodbye to our friends from the other universities.
UCC Trampoline’s win at Intervarsities adds to their win at Munster Open back in October where UCC emerged victorious with a final score of 306.8 to UL’s 304.55. As both Munster Open and Intervarsities champions for two years running, UCC Trampoline will be looking to retain these titles for the foreseeable future!
