Mountaineering Club in Peak Shape!
UCC had a fantastic series of results at the CIT hosted mountaineering intervarsity’s over the weekend.
Martin Dunne and Cillian Brewitt came first and second respectively in their category, Jun and Kelly came second in their categories and Lizz came third in hers. UCC won the overall team competition.

This week’s hike is to Mount Brandon. It’s on Sunday the 8th of March and we’ll be leaving at 8.00am sharp this week by Gaol Cross Castlewhite. The bus costs is 7 euro. Please bring the following Hiking boots Outdoor wear Food and drink
Please Note: This hike is not suitable for those who haven’t been on previous hikes or who have been struggling on the hikes in the past.
*Important: For the journey home a change of clothes is required and especially SHOES! * We stop in the shop on the way for any items people need to buy and usually we stop for drinks or food in the pub on the way home. Want to bring back a momento of your great time with our club besides cool photos? Club hats and t-shirts are been sold this semester, if anyone would like to get their hands on these limited edition items speak to club members at the Maradyke wall or on one of the hikes.
The UCC Mountaineering Club will going on their annual trip abroad to Wales from the 18th-22nd of April. This includes hiking and outdoor climbing in the Snowdon region and is one of the club highlights of the year. To request a place on the trip send an email to the club.
*Climbing* We run sessions down at the Maradyke Arena climbing wall every Monday and Wednesday, from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm on Monday and 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Wednesday. After the Wednesday session we usually head to Tom Barrys on Barrack Street – great for getting to know people better! It’s marked on this map, along with other important locations for ourselves around town https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=206169092405420583565.0004ca9e24813ae7ad0ae *Awesome Walls* Climbing and Bouldering at the Awesome Walls every Friday night from 6-8 at a reduced rate of 4 euros per person. It is a great facility with plenty of climbing routes and space for bouldering. The Bouldering Wall is free to use from 6-7pm. *Note: *We advise that people pass a belay test before using the Awesome Walls and are required to sign up as members for 5 euro. Bring student id and climbing shoes.
