Women’s Indoor IVs 2018 Champions!!

7 YEARS, 7 FINALS, 6 WINS

10/11/2018 | We hosted Women’s Indoor IVs in the Mardyke Arena again this year. This time we sent 3 teams (more than any other college!), 2 of which finished in the Top 6, with UCC 1 bringing home the title!

UCC 1

Final placing: CHAMPIONS

MVP: Emma Healy
MSP: Kate Crowley
MVP of the Final: Kate Crowley

And the Women’s Indoors trophy is back in Cork, where it had resided for 5 years until Trinity took it from us in the final last year. UCC 1 started the day by smashing all of their games to top their pool. They fought off the likes of UL and DCU in the quarterfinals and semifinals to set up the much anticipated repeat of last year’s final – UCC 1 vs TCD 1. Determined to avenge their previous defeat, UCC 1 came out strongly and dominated the game with a very convincing 10-4 win. That makes our 7th Indoors final in a row, and from that 6 WINS! UCC is truly a force to be reckoned with in college women’s Ultimate and we couldn’t be prouder!

UCC 1 v UCD 1 12-1
UCC 1 v TCD 2 17-1
UCC 1 v NUIG 13-1
UCC 1 v UL 11-2
UCC 1 v DCU 10-4
UCC 1 v TCD 1 10-4

UCC 2

Final placing: 6th

MVP: Saoirse O’Sullivan

MSP: Emer Twohig

UCC 2 were out to prove that they were worthy of being a first team, and they did just that – finishing in the Top 6 as by far the best second team, ahead of even some first teams! Despite being made up of mostly developmental players the team really put it up to the other teams in their power pool, pulling off some amazing plays to surprise even themselves. Undoubtedly the highlight of their day was when they upset DIT in their 2nd last game of the day, which guaranteed them a spot in the Top 6!

In the 5v6 placement game, UCC 2 got off to a slow start and were trailing 3-6. The girls managed to step it up to take the game to universe at 6-6, but unfortunately lost on universe. While they were disappointed about the narrow loss, the girls were delighted with the way they played throughout the day and can take pride in the fact that they were the only 2nd team in the Top 8!

UCC 2 v UL 1 13-0
UCC 2 v TCD 1 1-10
UCC 2 v DCU 2-8
UCC 2 v UCD 1 3-8
UCC 2 v DIT 7-4
UCC 2 v UL 6-7

UCC 3

Final placing: 9th (Plate Winners) and SPIRIT WINNERS

MVP: Claire Roche

MSP: Claire Roche

UCC 3 were the only 3rd team in the tournament (which says a lot about the success of women’s Ultimate in UCC!) and was made up of mostly beginners. Given the power pool format of the tournament, UCC 3 were placed in the bottom pool. The girls showed incredible potential and were learning and growing with each game. The team finished at the top of their pool (ahead of all 2nd teams except UCC 2 WOO), making them the plate winners! They also won Spirit – a testament to their superb attitude and an amazing feat for a 3rd team!

UCC 3 v MU 13-0
UCC 3 v DIT 7-5
UCC 3 v UCD 2 6-5
UCC 3 v UL 2-8
UCC 3 v UCD 2 9-3
UCC 3 v TCD 2 7-4

Shoutout to our chairperson David O’Shea and his TD team for a fantastic tournament! Looking forward to Women’s Outdoors – will we make it 7 in a row??
