Weekend success for UCC Rowing

It was a weekend of rowing success with UCC Rowing club picking up 4 National Titles at the Irish Championships.

A cool, calm performance by Quercus Sports Scholar Ronan Byrne saw him claim the Intermediate singles in dominant fashion, as well as taking in a course record.  This was added to with the men’s team taking home the Club 8+ in a dramatic final.

Other successes this weekend were the Men’s 4+ and Intermediate Doubles, who both won their respective finals.

Áine McCarthy (Former Employee in CUBS and The UCC Academy) won the Intermediate, Senior Pairs and Senior 8. The senior pair win broke the course record by 5 second. Áine rows for Skibbereen Rowing Club and will represent Ireland at the Home International regatta in Cork next weekend.

Meanwhile on the world stage, UCC was represented as Aifric Keogh (UCC Graduate) and Tara Halon (current student) competed in the World Cup in Lucerne.  The women’s pair placed fourth in their B Final, 10thoverall. They were fifth for much of the contest but moved up one place with a good finish.

Well done to all competitors this weekend.
