UCC Sport raises €14k for CUH Charity!

Over the last 9 months, UCC Sport was supporting the Cork University Hospital Charity’s Children’s Appeal by making the foundation its official charity partner. As a result of many student-led initiatives and immeasurable fundraising efforts, UCC Sport was able to present a cheque to the value of €13,979.78!

Two University College Cork students, Jonathan Keane (UCC Skydiving Secretary 2016/17, PhD candidate in Microbiology) and Kate O’Meara (UCC Dance Captain 2016/17, undergraduate in Financial Mathematics) represented the two clubs which together accounted for over €5,000! Declan Kidney (Director of DSPA), Michael Hanrahan (President 2016/17), Oliwier Melon (Vice-President 2017/18) were there on behalf of UCC Clubs’ Executive, UCC Students’ Union and the rest of sports clubs whose equally significant contributions allowed UCC Sport to reach a pool of almost €14k. The Clubs Executive wishes to announce that it has committed to extend the partnership for 2017/18.

The money will facilitate the charity to continue to improve the facilities and acquire equipment necessary for those with a range of illnesses such as Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes or Epilepsy as well as accommodate the parents of the affected children. The funds allow the hospital to provide state-of-the-art pediatric care across the regions of Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and Waterford. During today’s visit, UCC Sport was shown the ongoing work in the Day Care department as well as described what will be done for young babies, long-term patients and parents.

You can support this very deserving cause by helping us with our fundraising activities throughout the 2017/18 academic year. Alternatively, you can make a donation on the charity’s website where you can include “UCC Sport” in the message box if you wish.
