So UCC Thought It Could Dance?!

We have finally managed to catch our breath after ‘So UCC Thinks It Can Dance’ Last Tuesday night and now that we have, we just can’t stop smiling.

The event saw 6 amazing clubs and societies step out of their comfort zone and perform for over 200 people squeezed into Devere hall! Each group had a movie-themed dance and worked alongside some members from the club to put together fantastically creative performances. From a lively rendition of ‘Happy Feet’ by The Clubs Exec, to an intriguing take on ‘Beauty and the Beast’ by The Engineers without Borders, the audience were kept entertained from start to finish.

The wonderful MC Rory led us through the evening that also saw performances from all our advanced teams here at UCC Dance Club perform. It was wonderful to see how much our teams had progressed and each group was well received by the audience.

Our three wonderful judges, DJ Bongo Steve, Danielle From the Dance Committee and Sean representing the Student Union were all looking for something specific from eye contact to entertainment. They were tough judges but with each group delivering something different, the scores were high all-night long. Alongside the judges the audience vote was worth 50 percent. The counting was underway in no time and coming out in third place was ‘An Chuallacht’ with the second-place prize going to the impressive ‘UCC Trampolining Club’! After a moment of suspense, the ‘UCC Maths Society’ was announced victorious and crowned champions of ‘So UCC Thinks It Can Dance 2017’!

Their excitement was contagious, and it wasn’t long before they had the audience in stitches performing their victorious routine ‘Risqué Business’ one last time!

The night was a huge success and raised a great deal of money for The CUH Children’s Ward, a charity that we feel very strongly about supporting.  We would like to thank everybody who made this event possible from the audience to the judges, to the sponsors and everyone in between. The support we received was huge and did not go unnoticed.
