University College Cork provides elite sports persons with the opportunity to apply for a variety of Sports Scholarships whilst pursuing their academic & sporting careers. UCC has a long established Sports Scholarship Scheme in place. In 2008 UCC became a member of the Irish Institute of Sport Elite Athletics Scholarship Programme.
UCC annually awards Sports Scholarships ranging across sixty sports clubs. In 2017/18 fourteen different sports are represented on the Scheme.
In 2012/13 UCC as part of its centenary year of sport in the Mardyke awarded the following two elite sports scholarships:-
- Roy Keane UCC Sport 100 Soccer Scholarship
- Michael J. Dowling UCC Sport 100 Hurling Scholarship
These are elite scholarships which can be valued at up to €20K each over a four year period. We hope to award these scholarships again for the coming year.
There were three awardees of the inaugural Roy Keane UCC Sport 100 Soccer Scholarship and two awardees of the M.J. Dowling UCC Sport 100 Hurling Scholarship.
UCC is delighted that these high profile individuals are associated with its scholarship scheme.
The Munster Council of the GAA also allocates bursaries to GAA students living in the Munster region. These bursaries are open to players and administrators.
How do I apply?
Quercus Sports Scholarships
please see website for further details – www.ucc.ie/en/quercus/
Other Scholarships include:
- Jason Foley Memorial Scholarship – part of the UCC application process
- Corporate sponsored scholarships – these vary from year to year but have in the past included Bank of Ireland, Trend Micro, Kinsale Energies, among others.
UCC also awards Player Development Awards where a number of the core sports acknowledge the potential of sports persons. There is no financial benefit to these awards but recipients benefit from a number of other scholarship services, specialized, coaching, etc.
Please note that the Criteria for the UCC Scholarship Scheme can change from year to year depending on the number and caliber or applicants as well as the contribution of sponsors. Also the value of all scholarships is dependent on these factors.
