Putting the Fresh into Freshers

Attention all freshers! Ciara Judge here, your friendly first-year rep, calling on YOU to attend freshers trampoline training next week! Going to trampoline training for the first time as a fresher was pretty daunting, I won’t lie. I had done zero gymnastics since the age of 12, so I thought I was going to be pretty out of my depth, however I could not have been more wrong. Freshers training is really not about being fantastic and a skilled gymnast – it’s really just about having a go on the trampoline or tumble track, and of course having fun with the rest of the club. To fit in with the UCC Tramps you don’t need to be amazingly skilled (I definitely am not), you just need to be up for a laugh! Training goes at whatever pace you are comfortable with. At UCC we are so lucky to have great coaches who will both keep you safe and help you to improve so quickly that before long you won’t even recognise yourself. Complete beginners can start out with just bouncing, or simple shape jumps (tuck, pike and straddle) that are easy to execute but at least look impressive enough to show off to your friends. If you’re looking to push yourself a little more, that’s fine too – for example, many freshers with a background in gymnastics can be seen doing somersaults on their first training session. If tumbling is more your style, our resident expert Pete breaks that out on Thursdays, along with some intense chunes to make you feel nice and empowered. So if you’re a fresher and you’re considering joining the club – it’s never too late to start! We train Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm-7pm and Thursdays from 4:30pm-7pm. And remember, no matter how much of a beginner you are, you can feel great about being better than the first year rep (because I’m really, really bad). See you there!
