Home Intervarsity Finals a huge success for UCC Cricket Club
Despite going out to a strong University of Ulster side in the semi-finals on Wednesday, this week has been an unqualified success for UCC Cricket Club, hosting the final stages of the Intervarsity Championships for the first time in over ten years.
The event, which ended yesterday was held in two venues over two days and in his speech at the trophy presentation, Mr. Phillip Carson, Irish Universities Cricket Association board member lavished praise on UCC Cricket Club for their organisation and hospitality. His comments were echoed by all four teams and by his fellow board members as well as by Barry Keane, President of UCC Cricket Club who reserved special praise for the committee of the club whose hard work had contributed to making the event such a successful one.
It was a proud day for UCC Cricket Club, who just a short few years ago were not able to compete in local league cricket due to lack of numbers. The turnaround in the clubs fortunes is directly related to the effort put in by the committee over the last few years and to be able to successfully host a tournament of this calibre is testament to how far the club has come in such a short period of time.
