Sports Stars


UCC’s top young sports stars were honoured by UCC at the Sports Star Awards 2016/2017. The awards take place in The River Lee on Thursday 13th April 2017, with personalities from the world of sport, coaches, parents, students, UCC Clubs Executive and UCC staff in attendance.
The Annual Sports Star Awards, now in their 34th year, recognise outstanding sporting performances from UCC sports club athletes. The awards were presented by Guest of Honour Prof Pat O Shea, President of UCC.

The full list of UCC Sports Star Awards 2016-17 winners is as follows:

  • Phil Healy – Athletics 
  • Adrian O Sullivan – Basketball
  • Orla Cronin – Camogie 
  • Ian Maguire – Gaelic Football 
  • Doireann O Sullivan – Ladies Gaelic Football 
  • Michael Breen – Hurling 
  • Robert O Donovan – Rugby 
  • Sean McLoughlin – Soccer
  • Daniel Pender – Soccer 
  • Emma Barber – Ladies Hockey 

Kieran Dowd Lifetime Achievement Award: Olann Kelleher, UCC Rugby Club

UCC’s top young sports stars were honoured by UCC at the Sports Star Awards 2015/2016 hosted by the River Lee Hotel on the 4th of April 2016.  Eamon Ryan, Guest of Honour, spoke about his experiences in all sports and about the value of combing academics with sport & physical activity in terms of personal development.
