Another First for Mintern.

The Dungarvan Triathlon, which is on the National Sprint Calendar, took place in glorious sunshine on Saturday 20th June. UCC student Chris Mintern was impressive, posting yet another 1st place podium finish, leading from the start.  Swimming with Sundays Well, Mintern continues to dominate the swim leg, emerging first from the water on 11.00.  He followed this with a slick transition to the bike, putting himself in a very commanding position going into the cycle stage.  He posted a 37.22 for the cycle leg, the second fastest split of the day, and had another slick transition from bike to run. Paul Ogle of Waterford Tri Club, who had the fastest cycle split of the day 35.47 was unable to make up sufficient ground on Mintern as they turned in to the run stage.  Mintern completed the run in 20.18 to secure victory on 1:09.43 with Paul Ogle of Waterford in second, some three minutes behind on 1:12.47 and Sebastian Hella of South Coast Tri in 3rd on 1:14.17.

Younger brother James Mintern, a member of the Triathlon Ireland National Youth Development Squad was placed 6th overall but was the first Junior to complete the course.  James was also dominant in the water posting an 11.51 split.  He clocked 41.15 over the cycle leg and finished on 22.16 for the run giving him a finish time of 1:16.39 for the full circuit.
